Carolyn's Comments

After several months of sending out my intention to attract the 'ideal' assistant, I am happy to announce I now have one....at least for the next few months! My daughter Adria just graduated (magna cum laude!) from Southern Utah University. She has moved home
this summer and will be starting Law School in the fall. As Tai Chi Flow and my Energy Healing business have grown, I have really needed some extra help, so I am thrilled that she will be working for me this summer!
Adria is smart, organized and knows all sorts of computer tricks that I have yet to learn! She may be the one who answers the phone or email when you contact me for an order or to book a session. In case you'd like to see who you are talking to, you can check out my gal at:

Featured Article: Chillax, Enjoy your Tai Chi Practice!

My 5 year old daughter attends a weekly dance class. It is called "Creative Dance" and that is just what it is--very creative! Her teacher, Miss Susan is wonderful at making each child feel special. Knowing that children learn best when they are relaxed and doing something that is fun for them, Miss Susan tells them a story, then the children dance the parts of that story.
Although they are learning how to skip, gallop, point toes, etc. they are also learning that everyone's body has a unique way of moving, and there is no "wrong" way to do the moves. It is fun to watch the grins and hear the giggles as these little dancers flit around the room feeling secure that their way of doing it is just right for them.
When I teach a Pee Wee Tai Chi class, the same principles apply. Although there needs to be structure and proper alignment, the learning process is much enhanced because the children don't compare the way their body moves to how their neighbor's does. The joy for them is in the doing, not having to learn all the moves perfectly.
Wouldn't it be great if we could all keep that sense of childlike acceptance of ourselves throughout life? As adults, many Tai Chi students are obsessed with learning the movements "perfectly". This causes them stress, which slows their ability to learn and enjoy the movements. Tai Chi will show you on a very basic level that there is no "wrong" way to do it. You are growing and learning how to do things better and better each and every day of your life. Tai Chi is simple enough to use the very first day of practice, but its richness is so subtle that you can refine your Tai Chi movements for the rest of your life. Therefore, you do not need to "perfect" the first movement before learning the second. You learn a layer of the movements, and learning that layer changes who you are and how you function. Your new and improved self can then learn the movements at yet a deeper, more subtle level, and so on for years and years. Tai Chi leaves you in an endlessly blooming state of perfection.Students often obsess on remembering each detail the instructor tells them; don't do that. Good instructors will repeat important things over and over. Don't make your Tai Chi experience another "important," "serious" thing in your life. Being a chore you feelyou "should" do every day (or a few times a week) takes all the fun out of it. As my 20 year old son would say, "Chillax". Let yourself enjoy the practice, knowing that the way your body wants to move is just right for you, and let that creative child in you come out!
